Introduction
Gtech is the new cool contender when it comes to vacuum cleaners. We have reviewed their Gtech Multi and Gtech AirRam in the past and whilst being pretty decent offerings we felt they were quite expensive for something that was either an upright or handheld and that’s it. With the new Pro, they have built a hybrid priced at a decent price point. Does it stack up though and should your next vacuum cleaner be the Gtech Pro?
- Lightweight & versatile bagged cordless vacuum
- Up to 40 minute run-time powered by a 22V Lithium-ion battery
- AirLOC technology - Gtech’s unique AirLOC system* means the new Gtech Pro is not just great at picking up dust and debris, but is designed to pick up larger objects too
- Saving you time - with a dust capacity of 1.5 litres, the Gtech Pro’s breathable bags hold more than 3 times the dirt compared to most cordless vacuum cleaners of a similar size
- 4 hours charge time

Gtech bagged vacuum cleaner?
One thing that really does stand out on the Gtech Pro is the fact that its a bagged vacuum cleaner. With more and more brands moving to a bagless setup this is not something you see often but the idea behind it does have some merit.
One of the main failings of bagless vacuum cleaners is the potential for incidents and mess when dumping the contents of the vac into a bin or black bag.
I know from experience how messy this can be. I’ve pressed the release button by mistake and dumped several house cleans worth of dirt and dust on the kitchen floor or managed to release an apocalyptic cloud of dust over the bin.
Gtech’s implementation of a bagged vacuum cleaner removes this problem entirely. Ok, I will admit it does add additional costs over the lifetime of the unit – but the bags are surprisingly cheap considering their quality.
On the Gtech website, extra bags are currently retailing for £9.99 for 10 and given that they rate the life of each bag from 1 to 3 months depending on usage, this isn’t going to cost a lot with a single pack lasting upto 2 and a half years, not bad for a tenner.
The bags themselves are high quality, triple layered bags designed to filter out dust particles of varying sizes. Each bag has a maximum capacity of 1.5 litres of dust before they need to be replaced. A handy light on the top of the case allows you to see into the bag so you know when it’s starting to get a bit full.
Amazon has now started selling the Gtech Pro bags, which you can find in the link below.

How powerful is the Gtech Pro?
The performance of the Pro really isn’t an issue – suction is perfectly adequate when using the Pro’s eco setting to conserve battery life, and superb when using the maximum power mode.
The maximum power mode makes cleaning harder to shift dirt and particles like grit and small stones incredibly easy. In some cases however, it can be a bit too powerful.
So far
Should you ever suck up anything like a cable for example, the Gtech Pro will auto shutdown – the unit simply switches itself off and the battery indicator flashes red. In this instance, simply remove the offending blockage and power back on – you can carry on where you left off.
The two supplied powered heads make light work of most surfaces. This is especially noticeable if you are used to using a cheaper, friction based vac. Whereas you usually need to push or pull the head over your flooring and carpet, the Pro literally glides with zero effort.
Two heads are supplied, one power floor head and one power brush. The power floor head, as named is designed for general flooring use and is capable of switching surfaces as you go – no more pressing buttons on the top of the head when moving from laminate to carpet, this does it all for you.
The power brush is a smaller version of the power floor head but intended for use on fabrics and smaller carpeted areas. This head is ideal for hoovering the car with and will work on all your surfaces from rubber mats to fabric seating.
The best feature of the Gtech Pro in my opinion is possibly the most frivolous of the lot – the Pro has headlights to see where you are cleaning!
This is actually more useful than it sounds. The lights are situated on the leading edge of the powerheads and cast long shadows as you are cleaning. This means you can clearly see what you are vacuuming up. It’s a simple idea that is brilliantly executed.
I love work lights on my combi drills, why not on my vacuum cleaners?
Battery Life
Battery life is good for such a compact unit. We found that the supplied 22v battery was good for about 30 mins continuous hoovering using a mix of the maximum and eco power settings. This gives you more than enough run time to do a medium sized semi-detached house in a single session.
As you’d expect, running the Gtech Pro on the maximum power setting will result in less run time, but at a higher performance level. When used like this you can expect around 20 to 25 mins run time. The eco mode on the other hand should give you up to 40 mins but of lower performance.
Charging from flat takes around 4 hours, however the battery does support a quick charge system where you can leave it for just an hour before using it – this is ideal if you only need a few mins use.
The battery also unclips from the main body of the Gtech Pro which means you don’t have to charge the device where you store it – the battery is nice and compact and can be charged from a wall socket like a standard power bank. When ready, you can just clip it back into place and start cleaning. This design also means that you can invest in a second battery – which would be ideal if you have a larger home and required more run time in a single sitting.
Ergonomics
At only 1.4Kg for the main body of the Pro – it feels remarkably lightweight for the amount of power it can deliver. The body of the Pro is also very well balanced. Gtech has clearly put a lot of effort into the design and weight distribution.
Even adding on the included extension poles or powered heads doesn’t really affect the balance at all – you can use the extension pole and the dusting brush at full length to dust your coving without it ever becoming uncomfortable – even for extended periods.
The main body of the vacuum is constructed from durable, impact resistant ABS plastic and while it doesn’t feel as solid as some other vacuums you know it’s going to be able to take a beating before it gives up.
The Pro is a very lightweight easy to use cordless vacuum.
Is the Gtech Pro value for money?
At launch, the Gtech Pro retails at £249 for the complete kit and is firmly situated at the premium end of the market and competes with the likes of Dyson and Shark for market share – but is it good value?
I think that the Gtech Pro does offer good value for money when you take into account the amount of time you’ll save over the devices lifetime. I can do my full house in around 25 minutes with the Gtech, with my older Nilfisk VP300 Eco that i’ve had for the past 5 years, it takes about 40 minutes top to bottom, and i’ve not got to drag it everywhere I go.
At two cleans a week that adds up to 2 hours saved per month and 24 over the year.
If you value your time then the Pro is a good investment in the long run.
The Gtech’s 2-Year Warranty also adds the peace of mind that your purchase will be covered should the unlikely event happen and it breaks down on you.
As a slight criticism of the device, the one thing that surprised me was that the Gtech Pro ships with only two bags, it would have been nice for them to ship with a few more as a starter pack. I think I’m really nitpicking here but as they work out at a pound a bag, they could have chucked a few more into the deal.
