Bosch PSB18 LI-2 Review

Bosch PSB 18 Li-2 Ergonomic Combi Drill Review

The Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 Combi Drill is a lightweight and ergonomic drill from Bosch that doesn’t hold any punches.

The Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 builds upon Bosch’s experience in creating great value DIY tools and takes it up a notch by delivering it in a lightweight and ergonomic package.

Just like its smaller brother, the PSB 1800 (check out our review), the Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 is equipped with twin batteries however these versions are uprated to 2.5Ah offering an extended working time of up to 700 screws on a single charge.

While the PSB 18 doesn’t come equipped with Bosch’s standard battery pack and 18v charger, the compatibility with over 20+ Bosch tools make the PSB a must have. A sturdy hard case is also included in the package to keep your drill packed away safely when not in use.

Although the Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 doesn’t have as much torque as its sibling (32Nm as opposed to 29Nm) we feel that this doesn’t really detract from our overall impression of the drill. Where this drill really shines is in its weight and ergonomics. We feel that the PSB 18 is ideal for applications around the home where extended use is required, such as drilling masonry.

The drill features a handy twin handle design to maximise power transfer and minimise strain on the user and has been recommended by Aktion gesunder Rücken (AGR) (Campaign For Healthier Backs) in Germany. Like other drills in Bosch’s range, this features the Syneon chip that managed power transfer between the battery pack and the gearbox, delivering power exactly where you need it.

Bosch PSB 18 – Vital Statistics

The Bosch weighs in at around 1.3Kg with a battery attached, and the twin handle design allows for longer running times with less strain on the arms and the back. Included in the package:

  • Bosch PSB 18 Li-2 Ergonomic Cordless Hammer Drill
  • 13mm chuck
  • A blow moulded plastic carry case
  • Instruction manual

When we originally reviewed its smaller brother, we found that it was best in its class. While the PSB 18 does cost nearly double of the PSB 1800 we think that if you are after the extra capacity, runtime and ease of use then it’s well worth the extra investment.

Bosch’s warranty period is amongst the industries best, with a standard 2-year warranty included out of the box and a free 3rd year if you register online. With Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 you know you are investing is a great tool thats sure to last.

Bosch PSB 18 LI-2 – Recommended Accessories

Bosch do a very handy 91 piece bit and screwdriver set as part of this range, that is well worth checking out if you are purchasing a combi drill for the first time and don’t yet have any drill bits. It is less than half the price of the drill and features a ratchet screwdriver, all the bits you could need, plus 11x masonry, 11x metal and 8x wood drill bits to get you going.
